Working in a corporate setup has been a dream for most adults, especially the fresh graduates who wanted to gain experience working professionally. Unfortunately, the year 2020 was very challenging for all of us. The spread of the new coronavirus became fast and lockdowns were imposed all over the world. COVID-19 forced many businesses to implement working remotely and others need to shutdown.

Luckily, here is the virtual world that offers a variety of jobs, and that many professionals are shifting their choice of work-life. Working from home is now a choice of many young professionals, stay-at-home mothers, freelancers, undergraduates, and full-time office-based employees as well.

Working from Home or in a virtual world is almost the same as working in an office setup, you can earn the same salary or even more as long as you can. You will work in the comfort of your home, with no early alarms, no traffics, no issues with colleagues, and no favoritism. If you are a mother like me, you can be with your child and take good care of him while working, we just have to manage our time wisely.

No idea on how to start?

For newbies in the online freelancing world, you need to have a computer or laptop, internet connection, and determination to become a successful freelancer/virtual assistant.

Becoming an online freelancer/virtual assistant also requires enough knowledge of the field. It is advisable to watch various tutorial videos on YouTube for free training, and recommended to enroll in online courses to develop more skills.

Here are simple things that we need:

  1. Determine your skills.

  2. Build your business branding.

  3. Sign up and create a profile for online job sites. (Example: OnlineJobs.ph, Upwork.com)

  4. Upload your portfolios.

  5. Start looking for work that suits your branding, and passion.

  6. Draft and send your impressive cover letters and proposals.

  7. Do your jobs efficiently and effectively once you get the job.

  8. Repeat.

Starting your online career will not be easy as 1-2-3 but with the knowledge, skills, and consistency, you can survive the run. If the first cycle of the things you need to know didn’t work out, repeat, and try again. Say a little prayer so that God will be with you every step of the way and eventually you will see yourself landed on your first ever client and soon be a successful online freelancer.
